How to enable location services for betting apps
Allow your browser or betting app to use precise location. Check Location Services in your phone settings, then the browser or app permission, then reload the page and retry. Computers also need system location turned on.
You need to enable location services before a betting app or site can read where you are. If they are off, or set to approximate location, the site cannot finish the Ontario location check and blocks wagering.
How to enable location services on your device
Menu names vary slightly by device and by software version, but the path is similar everywhere. Follow the steps for your device below, then repeat them for the browser you use to bet.
- iPhone or iPad: open Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services. Turn it on, set Safari or your betting app to While Using the App and switch on Precise Location.
- Android: open Settings, Location and turn it on, then allow precise location in the app or browser permissions.
- Windows or Mac: open the privacy settings, turn on location services and allow your browser to use them.
- Chrome and other browsers: select the icon beside the web address, open Site settings and set Location to Allow for the betting site.
Tips that prevent repeat errors
Set the permission to Allow instead of Ask, so the prompt stops coming back every time you open the site. Keep Wi-Fi turned on even when you use mobile data, because nearby networks help confirm where you are. After you change a setting, close the browser or app completely and reopen it, so the new permission takes effect before you try the check again.
Precise location matters
Approximate location only tells the site which general area you are in. For the Ontario check to finish, the device has to share a precise location, which is why the check keeps failing on phones that are set to approximate, especially in towns close to the border.
