2FA code not arriving? How to fix it
Wait a minute, request one code only, check spam and your signal, and confirm the phone number or email on file. For an authenticator app, switch on automatic date and time. If you have lost the phone, contact support to verify your identity.
A 2FA code not arriving can lock you out at the worst moment, but it is nearly always a delay, a typo or a setting. Work through the checks below before you ask for another code.
Quick checks for a 2FA code not arriving
- Wait 60 seconds: codes can be delayed by signal or network traffic.
- Request once: repeated requests can cancel earlier codes or trigger a pause.
- Check spam: email codes sometimes land in junk or promotions.
- Check your details: the phone number or email on file may be out of date.
Different senders can be caught by filters that let other sites through, so check blocked senders and any setting that filters unknown senders. A weak signal is another common cause, so move somewhere with better coverage or switch to Wi-Fi.
Authenticator apps and expiry
Authenticator codes are made on your phone, so delivery is not the problem. The clock is. Turn on automatic date and time, because a clock that is out of sync makes every code fail. Authenticator codes last about 30 seconds, and texts and emails usually stay valid for a few minutes, so always enter the newest code and not an older one. Never tell support or anyone else your code: it is for you alone, and anyone who asks for it is probably a scammer.
If you lost your phone
Use a backup code if you saved one. If not, contact support, verify your identity and ask them to reset 2FA. Once you are back in, update your phone number in your profile and set 2FA up again, saving new backup codes in a password manager this time.
