What we have this Wednesday is a matchup between two teams that have already qualified, so you might think there isn’t much at stake. Canada and Switzerland are already through and won’t lose their spots – unless Canada gets blown out and Bosnia blows out Qatar. The second part is possible, maybe even likely, but Canada has been playing well, and it won’t be easy for Switzerland to win. I’m not going to look at worst-case scenarios.

From here on out, all the planning for both Canada and Switzerland comes down to knowing their opponents, the bracket, and the rest days starting in the knockout stage. If you read the section above, you already know that the group leader plays on Sunday and the runner-up plays the following Friday. Those are crucial rest days.

If the leader advances from the Last 32 to the Last 16, they will play the following Saturday – six days later – while the runner-up plays on Tuesday.
