Learn how craps Proposition Bets and Hardways work online in Canada. Discover payouts, single-roll odds, and high house edge risks.
Published:Look right at the middle of any online craps table. That crowded patch is the Proposition Bets area, or center bets. This is where the long shots live. Standard line bets and place bets grind out results over multiple rolls, but prop bets offer instant gratification with massive payouts and brutal odds to match – the riskiest corner of our craps section.
They can be fun, but they drain a bankroll fast if you do not pay attention to the math.
Single-Roll Proposition Bets
One roll decides everything. Put your chips down, throw the virtual dice, and collect or lose right away.
- Any Seven (Big Red): You bet on a 7 landing on the very next roll (1-6, 2-5, or 3-4). It pays 4:1 (or 4 for 1 on some tables) and gives the house a painful 16.67% edge.
- Any Craps: Covers 2, 3, or 12 on the next roll. It pays 7:1, with a house edge of 11.11%.
- Straight-Up Numbers: You pick one exact number for the next toss:
- Aces (2): Pays 30:1 for double ones (1-1).
- Twelve (12): Pays 30:1 for double sixes (6-6).
- Ace-Deuce (3): Pays 15:1 for a 1-2.
- Yo (11): Pays 15:1 for a 5-6.
- Combination Prop Bets: Most online software adds quick-click buttons to split your money across several center numbers at once:
- C & E: Splits your bet 50/50 between Any Craps (C) and the Eleven (E).
- Horn Bet: Chops your wager into four equal parts covering 2, 3, 11, and 12. The 2 and 12 portions pay 24:7, the 3 and 11 portions pay 3:1.
- World / Whirl Bet: Spreads your cash across 2, 3, 7, 11, and 12, basically adding Any Seven to a Horn bet.
Hardway Bets: Multi-Roll Pairs
Hardways sit right in the center box too, but they stay on the felt until something decisive happens. You bet that an even number (4, 6, 8, or 10) hits as an exact pair before it lands as an unequal sum (the easy way) or before a 7 shows up.
- Hard 4 (2-2) and Hard 10 (5-5): Pay 7:1. A 3-1 for a four or a 6-4 for a ten wipes the bet out.
- Hard 6 (3-3) and Hard 8 (4-4): Pay 9:1. An easy roll like 4-2 or 5-3 loses.
A 7 kills all Hardway bets on the spot. Also, online software turns Hardways “OFF” by default during the Comeout Roll. If you want them rolling, flip them to “ON” in the table menu.
The Reality of the House Edge
A 30:1 return on double aces catches your eye, no question. Just keep in mind that center bets carry the worst house edges in the entire casino. Treat them like an occasional lottery ticket for spare change, not a serious plan for protecting your Canadian dollars.
