Check out our betting tip for the matchup between Canada and Switzerland, taking place this Wednesday, June 24.
Last Updated: June 23, 2026The stage is set for a massive Group B showdown as the Canadian Men’s National Team takes on Switzerland this Wednesday, June 24, at BC Place in Vancouver. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm EDT.
Both nations enter this final group-stage clash tied at four points. However, Jesse Marsch’s squad currently holds the top spot thanks to a stellar +6 goal differential, compared to the Swiss at +3. Because of this edge, a draw is all Canada needs to officially win the group in front of their home crowd.
From a sports betting perspective, the oddsmakers have priced Switzerland as the favourites at +130 on the moneyline. A draw sits at +210, while a Canadian victory offers excellent underdog value at +230.
While both teams are practically safely through to the knockout stage, the stakes for finishing first are monumental. As the bracket currently stands, Canada is projected to face Belgium in the Round of 32, while Switzerland would draw South Korea. The difficulty of those matchups might seem comparable, but the real prize lies in the schedule.
The Group B winner secures a massive rest advantage, playing their first knockout match on Friday, July 3. Meanwhile, the runner-up faces a brutal turnaround with their Round of 32 fixture scheduled for this coming Sunday. For a Canadian squad managing the intense pressure of being co-hosts, securing at least a draw to lock in those crucial extra days of rest is essential.
My Bet: Canada vs. Switzerland
What we have this Wednesday is a matchup between two teams that have already qualified, so you might think there isn’t much at stake. Canada and Switzerland are already through and won’t lose their spots—unless Canada gets blown out and Bosnia blows out Qatar. The second part is possible, maybe even likely, but Canada has been playing well, and it won’t be easy for Switzerland to win. I’m not going to look at worst-case scenarios.
From here on out, all the planning for both Canada and Switzerland comes down to knowing their opponents, the bracket, and the rest days starting in the knockout stage. If you read the section above, you already know that the group leader plays on Sunday and the runner-up plays the following Friday. Those are crucial rest days.
If the leader advances from the Last 32 to the Last 16, they will play the following Saturday—six days later—while the runner-up plays on Tuesday. It might not seem like much, but it matters, and teams plan around this. No one will openly say a team threw a game or didn’t try to win, as that would be unsportsmanlike, but these things do happen.
Well, since I’m not part of the coaching staff, I don’t know what management is planning. But judging by how both teams have looked on the pitch, I like the idea of betting on goals from both sides. These are two teams that have been scoring and also generating a high number of expected goals (xG).
