New device login: why you get extra security checks
A new device login looks unusual to the operator, so it asks for a one-time code, a security question or a password reset. Enter the code sent to your email or phone, and tick the trust option only on a device you own.
A new device login is one of the most common reasons a betting site asks for extra proof that it is really you. The check protects your balance, and it usually takes under a minute.
Why a new device login triggers a check
The operator has not seen this phone or computer before, so it asks for a one-time code, a security question or a password reset. Deleting cookies makes a familiar browser look new, and travelling, joining a new Wi-Fi network or switching on a VPN can all trigger the same check. It is a routine security step, and it is one of the reasons your balance is hard to steal.
How to pass the check
- Enter your username and password carefully.
- Wait for the one-time code by text or email, then enter it before it expires.
- Tick “trust this device” only on a phone or laptop that you own and lock.
- If no code arrives, request one new code, check your spam folder and confirm that the phone number on file is current.
Log out and leave “trust this device” unticked on any computer that is not yours, because the next person could reach your account. If a VPN is switched on, turn it off first, since a hidden location can fail the checks.
Coming back to a dormant account
A dormant betting account is one with no logins or bets for the period set in the terms, often a year, and the first login afterwards almost always triggers the same checks. Your balance is still yours. Try your password, reset it if needed, and contact support if the login is refused, then expect to verify your identity again.
Some terms allow an inactivity charge, so read them and ask for any fee in writing. For accounts that were never verified, Gambling Commission guidance says a charge is fair only after 12 months and with at least 30 days’ notice. If you registered with GAMSTOP, the account stays closed until your period ends.
