My 2026/27 League One betting picks on BoldGambler. Tactical analysis, value odds and my top outright tips for the season.
Last updated:Here are my top betting picks for the 2026/27 League One season. Looking past the obvious favourites, I have found great value across title winners, playoff spots, top goalscorer, and relegation battles.
Sheffield Wednesday to Win Outright (Odds: 7/1)
If you want to avoid the obvious choice of Leicester, Sheffield Wednesday is a brilliant pick to lift the trophy. They went down, but they built a strong team very quickly for this division. The main man in midfield is still the legendary Barry Bannan, who is now joined by the solid Billy Mitchell holding the midfield. To make things better, they brought Louie Barry to the left wing, a player who has everything to cause trouble there. Leicester has a heavy possession style under Russell Martin that usually causes headaches early in the season. Because of this, the fans pushing the team at Hillsborough can make the difference and win them the title.

MK Dons to finish Top 6 (Odds: 7/4)
This is by far the best value bet in the league. MK Dons have just come up from League Two backed by very rich Kuwaiti owners, and they kept the core of the team, like Aaron Collins. They also brought in big names from higher divisions, like defender Charlie Goode and striker Sam Nombe. But their biggest asset is manager Paul Warne, a real promotion specialist who has already gone up three times with Rotherham. With this great setup, they have plenty of quality to finish at least in the top six and fight hard in the play-offs. It is a very safe bet for the return it offers.
Barnsley to be Relegated (Odds: 7/2)
Barnsley has been going downhill for a while. They have finished in lower positions in the table for five seasons in a row, and the end of last season was dreadful, playing like a relegated team. The board decided to bring Daniel Stendel back as manager, but he hasn’t done much good in his career since he left them in 2019. The worst part was losing key players: their main defender, O’Connell, left, and midfielder Phillips signed with a rival in the same division. Without these lads and with no clear direction on the pitch, betting on them to go down makes a lot of sense because of the club’s current bad run.
Jaze Kabia (Leyton Orient) Top Goalscorer (Odds: 22/1)
If you want a bold tip with a chance for a massive payout, this is the one. Leyton Orient has an unreal record of producing the last two top scorers in the league under manager Richie Wellens. He sets the team up in a way that the centre-forwards always get clear chances in front of goal. Now, the new signing Jaze Kabia has taken the legendary number nine shirt. He banged in seventeen goals in League Two playing for Grimsby and has a great eye for goal. With this system playing for him, these high odds are golden value for you to put a few quid on and cheer all season long.

Oxford United to be Relegated (Odds: 5/1)
Even with a good team on paper, Oxford United is going through a tense time off the pitch that could ruin everything. The club just got a transfer embargo for breaking financial rules, and the threat of worse punishments, like a points deduction, is very real. To manage all this mess, they called up former player Aaron Ramsey, who retired just four months ago and has never managed a professional team before. The pressure from the fans and this huge financial instability can ruin the mood in the stadium. If the crisis gets worse, betting on them to get relegated with these high odds is a great value bet for the season.
My Bets
- Sheffield Wednesday to Win Outright (7/1): I bet €60 and will win a profit of €420 (Total return: €480).
- MK Dons to finish Top 6 (7/4): I bet €200 and will win a profit of €350 (Total return: €550).
- Barnsley to be Relegated (7/2): I bet €150 and will win a profit of €525 (Total return: €675).
- Jaze Kabia Top Goalscorer (22/1): I bet €50 and will win a profit of €1,100 (Total return: €1,150).
- Oxford United to be Relegated (5/1): I bet €75 and will win a profit of €375 (Total return: €450).
I have staked a total of €535. If all my bets come in, my maximum profit will be €2,770, giving me an overall return of €3,305.
