Deposit match bonus: how it works
A deposit match adds bonus funds equal to a percentage of your deposit, up to a cap. For example, a 100% match up to $500 turns a $200 deposit into $200 in bonus funds. The bonus usually unlocks through playthrough and has an expiry date.
A deposit match bonus adds bonus funds equal to a percentage of your deposit, up to a maximum. It is the most common casino offer, and it also appears at some sportsbooks.
How a deposit match bonus works
- Match rate: 100% means the bonus equals your deposit, up to the cap.
- Cap: a 100% match up to $500 gives $500 at most, so a $200 deposit earns $200 and a $1,000 deposit still earns $500.
- Release: bonus funds often unlock as you wager, through a playthrough requirement.
The offer may also require a minimum deposit, and unused bonus funds often vanish after a set period, so the expiry matters as much as the headline percentage.
A worked example
Suppose you deposit $200 into a 100% match up to $500, and the terms ask for 10x playthrough on the bonus. You receive $200 in bonus funds and must wager $2,000 before they unlock. Games often count differently toward that target, so a slot and a table game may move you forward at different speeds. Doing this arithmetic before you accept the offer shows whether it fits how much you really plan to play. A lower multiplier such as 1x would need only $200 in wagers and is far easier to finish.
Before you deposit
Check the match rate, cap, minimum and playthrough, and confirm that your payment method qualifies. Decide your budget first, because a bigger deposit means more at risk, not free money. Keep your deposit limit in place, since a generous match can tempt you to deposit more than you planned. If the numbers do not fit how you play, skipping the offer is a perfectly good choice.
