Online Roulette Guides for US Players
Online roulette is simple to start and easy to misunderstand. This hub brings together every BoldGambler guide on roulette for US players: the rules, how a round plays out, every bet and payout, the house edge, the online formats and the betting systems that do not work.
Real-money online roulette is available only through state-licensed casinos, so this page also shows where it is legal and what to check before you play.
Roulette Guides
Start with how to play, or jump straight to the topic you need.
- How to Play Online Roulette – the basic rules plus a step-by-step walkthrough of the table, chips, limits and a full round.
- Roulette Bets and Payouts – every inside, outside and announced bet, with chip placement and payouts.
- Roulette House Edge Guide – why the zero pockets create the casino’s edge and how to choose the best table.
- Online Roulette Formats – RNG, live dealer, automatic and multiplier roulette compared.
- Roulette Betting Systems and Myths – why Martingale, Fibonacci and similar systems cannot beat the odds.
Roulette Wheels at a Glance
Which wheel you play matters more than which bet you place. This table shows the house edge and the Return to Player (RTP) for each wheel type.
| Wheel Type | Total Pockets | House Edge | Return to Player (RTP) |
| European (single zero) | 37 | 2.70% | 97.30% |
| American (double zero) | 38 | 5.26% | 94.74% |
| Triple zero | 39 | 7.69% | 92.31% |
| Quadruple zero | 40 | 10.00% | 90.00% |
A single-zero wheel cuts the house edge roughly in half compared with an American wheel. Our roulette house edge guide explains the math, including the La Partage and En Prison rules that lower the edge on even-money bets to 1.35%.
Where Online Roulette Is Legal in the US
Real-money online casino gaming is legalized state by state. As of September 2026, state-regulated online casinos are live in these seven states:
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Michigan
- New Jersey
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- West Virginia
Maine legalized online casino gaming in January 2026 through its tribal nations, but as of early September 2026 no licensed online casino had launched there. Nevada permits online poker, not online casino games.
Players generally must be 21 or older, and licensed operators use geolocation to confirm that you are inside the state while you play. Outside these states there is no state-licensed real-money online roulette, and offshore or sweepstakes sites are not a substitute for state regulation. Laws change as new states act, so check your state regulator’s current rules before you deposit.

Play Responsibly
Roulette is paid entertainment with a built-in house edge, not a way to make money. Set a deposit limit and a time limit before you start, and stop when you reach them. Licensed US casinos offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and our responsible gambling page explains how to use them.
If gambling stops being fun, call 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738) or text 800GAM to reach the National Problem Gambling Helpline. It is free, confidential and open 24/7.
