Scotland suffers a grim 1-0 defeat to Morocco in Boston. Read our post-match analysis as the Tartan Army prepares to face Brazil.

The Tartan Army’s World Cup knockout dreams took a massive hit on Friday. Following their opening victory, Steve Clarke’s Scotland suffered a grim 1-0 defeat to Morocco in Boston, bringing them crashing back to earth.

The damage was done instantly. Conceding in the second minute meant Scotland were forced to chase the game from the start. Despite desperately needing an equaliser to aid their Group C progression, they were abysmal going forward. Against a highly disciplined Moroccan side, the Scots managed just 41% possession, a dreadful six shots, and a mere 0.51 xGF.

Premier League stalwarts completely failed to step up. Andy Robertson, John McGinn, Nathan Patterson, Ryan Christie, and Che Adams all put in incredibly poor shifts. In truth, had the Atlas Lions pushed harder, they could have easily extended their lead. Scotland’s total lack of attacking threat also meant our “Both Teams to Score – Yes” bet never stood a chance.

Now, it is do-or-die. Scotland must secure a result against Brazil next Wednesday in Miami to reach the Round of 32. Fans tuning in from Glasgow and across the UK will face another tense, late-night fixture, with kick-off scheduled for 23:00 BST.

The bookmakers clearly view Steve Clarke’s men as highly fragile. Bet365 prices a historic Scottish win at 7/1, with the team sitting at +1.5 on the Asian Handicap.

Here are Scotland’s updated tournament futures on Bet365:

  • To Win the World Cup: 250/1
  • To Reach the Final: 80/1
  • To Reach the Semi-finals: 28/1
  • To Reach the Quarter-finals: 9/1
  • To Reach the Round of 16: 11/4

My bet for Scotland vs Marroco (BTTS yes)

Scotland face Morocco in a match that promises to be their biggest test yet. As things stand, Scotland top Group C with 3 points, while Morocco and Brazil are sitting on 1. In a worst-case scenario, by Saturday morning Morocco and Brazil could both be on 4 points, leaving Scotland on 3 and needing a result against Brazil in the final group game just to qualify.

My honest impression from the opening match was that Scotland looked quite poor. I never imagined Haiti—who were dreadful in the Concacaf Gold Cup a year ago—would give the Scots such a run for their money.

But looking at it closely, Haiti aren’t actually that bad. They’ve got players in top leagues and they are a decent outfit. Perhaps I (and many others) massive underestimated them.

Now, onto Morocco. As a Brazilian, I expected it to be a really tough game because they’ve got real quality. Morocco controlled Brazil until they scored the opener, and they didn’t panic for a second after the equaliser. It was actually Brazil, with a much higher average age in the starting XI (29 compared to 25.7), who looked rattled.

The composure of this Moroccan side deserves massive credit. They knock the ball around well, they don’t force things, and they aren’t a dirty team. They finished the match with a 1.37 xG.

In their 2026 friendlies, Scotland faced Japan and Ivory Coast, losing both matches after conceding over 2.40 xGA in each. That said, they are a team that can create chances—and they will be forced to produce something offensively if they find themselves chasing the game. You simply cannot write them off after their brilliant run in the qualifiers.

So, goals are my main shout for this fixture. Both teams to find the net.
