In baccarat you bet on which of two hands, the Player or the Banker, will finish closer to 9, or on a Tie. Every card is dealt and every drawing decision is made automatically by fixed rules, so your only choices are the bet and the stake. This hub brings together every BoldGambler guide on online baccarat for UK players: how to play, every bet and payout, the third card rule, and the online formats and variants.

Online casinos in the UK are licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). This page also shows what to check before you play, so that you only use licensed sites.

Baccarat Bets at a Glance

Which bet you place matters more than how you play, because every bet carries a different house edge. This table shows the payout, the house edge and the Return to Player (RTP) for each bet in a standard eight-deck game.

BetPayoutHouse EdgeReturn to Player (RTP)
Banker19:20 (1:1 minus 5% commission)1.06%98.94%

The Banker bet is the cheapest and the Tie bet the most expensive, even though the Tie’s 8:1 payout looks generous. Our baccarat bets, payouts and house edge guide explains where each figure comes from, including the commission and the pair bets.

Online Baccarat in the UK: What to Check Before You Play

Any casino that offers online baccarat to players in Great Britain must hold a licence from the UK Gambling Commission. Before you deposit, run through these checks:

  • Look for the licence details. A licensed casino states that it is licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission, shows its Gambling Commission account number and links to its licensing record on the Commission’s website.
  • Expect an age check. You must be at least 18 to play. Licensed casinos have to verify your age before you can gamble or open free-to-play versions of their games.
  • Know that GamStop applies. Online casinos licensed in Great Britain are required to take part in GamStop, the national self-exclusion scheme.
  • Do not expect to use a credit card. Credit cards cannot be used to gamble with licensed UK operators, so you will need a debit card or another accepted payment method.

Casinos without a UKGC licence fall outside the Commission’s oversight. They do not have to meet its technical standards for fair games, take part in GamStop or follow its player protection rules. Our online baccarat formats and variants guide explains how fairness is tested and how to check a game.

Play Responsibly

Baccarat is paid entertainment with a built-in house edge, not a way to make money. Set a deposit limit and a time limit before you start, and stop when you reach them. Licensed UK casinos typically offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and our responsible gambling page explains how to use them.

GamStop is a free service that lets you block yourself from all online gambling companies licensed in Great Britain for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. If gambling stops being fun, free and confidential support is available around the clock from the GamCare National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, and GamCare also offers live chat.
