The tournament brings together 16 teams: eight from the Eastern Conference and eight from the Western Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ultimate mission is simple but brutal: survive four elimination rounds. These are the First Round, the Conference Semifinals, the Conference Finals, and the grand finale, the NBA Finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-seeding-and-qualification\">Seeding and Qualification<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>How do teams get in? Teams in each conference are ranked, or &#8220;seeded,&#8221; from #1 to #8. This ranking depends entirely on their regular-season win-loss records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top six teams in each conference get an automatic ticket to the playoffs. But what happens if two teams have the exact same record? The NBA uses a strict tie-breaker system to keep things fair. They look at the stats in this exact order:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Head-to-head records<\/strong> between the tied teams.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Division leader status<\/strong> and division win records.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Conference records<\/strong> and records against other playoff teams.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Overall point differential<\/strong> (if they are still tied).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-play-in-tournament\">The Play-In Tournament<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To keep the late season exciting, the NBA added the Play-In Tournament. This mini-event decides the final #7 and #8 seeds for each conference, featuring teams ranked 7th through 10th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is exactly how it works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>7th and 8th<\/strong> place teams face off. The winner gets the official #7 playoff seed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>9th and 10th<\/strong> place teams play a high-stakes elimination game. The loser goes home, but the winner moves on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, the winner of that 9th\/10th game plays the loser of the 7th\/8th game. The winner of this last showdown grabs the #8 seed, completing the bracket.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-series-format-and-home-court-advantage\">Series Format and Home-Court Advantage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the bracket is locked in, the #1 seed plays the #8 seed, #2 plays #7, and so on. This setup rewards the top-performing teams with an easier theoretical path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every playoff matchup is a &#8220;best-of-seven&#8221; series. The first team to win four games advances, while the loser&#8217;s season is over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Higher-seeded teams also earn a huge bonus: home-court advantage. The series follows a 2-2-1-1-1 format:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Higher seed hosts:<\/strong> Games 1, 2, 5, and 7.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lower seed hosts:<\/strong> Games 3, 4, and 6.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This rewards a great regular season by giving the favored team the home crowd in crucial late-series games.
