Choose an amount from your gambling budget, not from what your bank balance allows, and pick the period that suits how you play, because the options must include 24 hours, 7 days and 1 month. A deposit limit is a gross limit, so it caps the total you deposit over the period, whatever you have withdrawn in between.

How the rules to raise deposit limit work

Raising a limit: only at your request, after a cooling-off of at least 24 hours and a positive confirmation from you.

Lowering a limit: takes effect immediately.

When you hit it: deposits are blocked until the period restarts or you increase the limit.

Reviews: you must be prompted to review your account at least every 6 months, and you can ask for more frequent reminders.

These rules come from the Gambling Commission’s technical standard RTS 12, and they apply to licensed online operators, so you should see the same wait wherever you play.

Using the wait wisely

Ask yourself why you want a higher limit. If the answer is to win money back, that is chasing losses, so keep the limit where it is, take a break or call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133. If you still want a higher limit after the wait, confirm it. A blocked deposit may also simply mean that you have reached your limit, so check your limits first whenever a payment fails.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

    <details class="faq-item">

Why is lowering a limit instant but raising it delayed?

            A lower limit protects you at once, while a higher one could be a moment of impulse. Cuts are instant, increases wait, which gives you time to change your mind.

    </details>

    <details class="faq-item">

Why was my deposit blocked?

            You may have reached a limit, and deposits stay blocked until the period restarts.
