After an epic Game 7 of the ALCS, the Toronto Blue Jays have made the World Series for the first time since 1993. The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to be the first team to repeat since the Yankees from 1998-2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two teams meet on Thursday, and so do Shohei Ohtani and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – the two best playoff performers this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vladdy is slashing .442\/.510\/.930 with six homers in 11 games. His 1.440 OPS ranks third all-time in a single postseason with a minimum of 50 plate appearances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ohtani, the two-way master, has struggled a little bit putting the ball in play, but had perhaps the greatest single-game performance in playoff history in Game 4 with his six innings pitched, 10 strikeout pitching outing while also hitting three home runs in the same game. His 469′ out-of-the-park moonshot was hit to a place baseball fans had never seen a baseball reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ohtani is slashing .220\/.333\/.634 with five home runs in 10 games. He’s also pitched 12 innings and has struck out 19 batters, only allowing three earned runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the furthest Guerrero Jr. has advanced in his seven-year career and he could do something special for his home country of Canada. Ohtani played in the World Series last year and he’ll look to greatly improve on his 2024 World Series performance when he went 2-for-19, didn’t hit a home run, and didn’t pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two will most likely face each other a couple times throughout the course of the Fall Classic. Shohei has pitched to Vlad nine times in his career, and Guerrero Jr. has had the best of him – he’s is 3-for-8 with a homer and a walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They haven’t faced each other head on since August of 2022 when Ohtani was a member of the Angels. The stakes in this late October matchup will be much higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
