This guide separates what the displays record from what they seem to promise. It begins with the idea behind a road, then does the arithmetic of streaks: how likely a run of a given length is, how long the longest run tends to be and how many runs a normal stretch holds. A seeded session of 120 rounds puts those numbers on a real sequence, a simulation of 2,000,000 rounds asks whether a streak changes the next result, and a count over 100 rounds shows how lopsided a fair table can look.

Roads Keep a Record, Not a Forecast

Every live table keeps a log of what has happened, and the displays that draw it are called roads. A review site lists a Big Road, a Big Eye Road, a Small Road and a Cockroach Road for Bac Bo, borrowing the names from baccarat, and Evolution says the game comes with numerous live gaming statistics covering bets and game results. Lobbies differ in what they show and how they draw it, so this guide describes the idea and not any single layout.

Whatever the drawing rules, every display starts from the same raw material, an ordered list of past results, and the next throw never reads that list.

What a road records: who won each round, how often the lead changed hands and how many ties have appeared.

What it cannot record: any hint of whether the next throw will repeat the last result or reverse it.

Counting Streaks the Fair-Coin Way

Set ties aside, and each decided round is a fair contest between two equal sides, so streaks follow the same arithmetic as heads and tails. A run is an unbroken string of decided rounds won by one side. The table gives the chance that a run of a chosen length shows up somewhere in a stretch of 50 or 100 decided rounds.

Wins in a row

Appears within 50 decided rounds

Appears within 100 decided rounds

4 or more

98.12%

99.97%

5 or more

82.09%

97.17%

6 or more

54.41%

80.68%

7 or more

30.89%

54.23%

Longer runs are rarer without being exotic: in a stretch of 100 decided rounds, 8 or more in a row shows up 31.48% of the time, 9 or more 16.86%, and even 10 or more 8.67%.

How Long the Longest Streak Gets

A typical stretch of 50 decided rounds has a longest run of 5.98 wins, and a typical stretch of 100 has 6.98. The longest run anywhere in our 2,000,000-round simulation was 20 wins for one side. A run of 7 is therefore a regular visitor, and a lobby that never showed a long column would be the odd one.

The Reference Session in Words

The 120-round session used across this series, drawn from a fixed random seed, finished with Player ahead in 56 rounds, Banker in 52 and 12 ties. Set the ties aside and 108 decided rounds remain. They fall into 53 runs, so the lead changed sides 52 times.

The longest run was 6 wins in a row for Player. The first run of four or more was complete by decided round 12, and 8 runs of that size appeared in all, so even a modest session produced several long stretches for a grid to show.

Runs Expected and Runs Seen

Take the opening 100 decided rounds of that session. They split into 49 runs, and fair dice would be expected to give 50.5 over the same span. The table breaks both counts down by length.

Length of run

What fair dice predict

What the session produced

1

25.5

24

2

12.6

11

3

6.3

7

4

3.1

3

5

1.5

3

6

0.8

1

7 or longer

0.7

0

All runs

50.5

49

The columns are close without matching, which is how randomness looks. With about 50.5 runs expected, the winning side changes roughly every second decided round, so a ragged grid is the normal grid.

Does a Streak Change the Next Round?

We scanned 2,000,000 simulated rounds for every point where one side had just taken five or more decided rounds in a row, and logged who took the decided round after it.

Side that was on the streak

Streaks found

Same side won the next decided round

Player

55,596

50.02%

Banker

54,742

49.93%

Both rates sit on 50%, the true chance for either side on a decided round. The simulated dice have no memory, so they could hardly do otherwise. Faulty equipment could in principle behave differently, but a road display is the wrong instrument for finding out.

Two Instincts, One Mistake

A long column invites two opposite readings. One treats it as a debt that the table must repay, so the other side is due; the other treats it as heat that will persist. Both take past results for information about future dice. Seven chosen decided rounds going to Player has a chance of only 0.781% beforehand, but once they have happened they are history, and the next decided round is as even as it ever was, at 50% for either side.

Whether you follow a streak or fade it, each chip still carries the same 1.13% house edge.

What a Hundred Rounds Can Look Like

A hundred rounds is a small sample, and the spread around the average is wider than most players expect. Count the ordinary range as the average plus or minus two standard deviations.

Player wins: 44.4 on average per 100 rounds, with a standard deviation of 5.0, so results from about 34.4 to 54.3 are ordinary.

Ties: they land in 11.27% of rounds, which averages 11.3 per 100 rounds with a standard deviation of 3.2, so 4.9 to 17.6 is ordinary.

A lopsided hundred therefore says very little. To judge a table you would need thousands of recorded rounds, and the verdict would be only as reliable as whoever kept the record.

A Coin-Flip Experiment for the Kitchen Table

You can see all of this without a casino. Flip a fair coin 100 times and write down the heads and tails in order. Expect about 50.5 runs and a longest run near 6.98, and expect a run of 5 or more in 97.17% of such batches. Streaks that look suspicious on a grid are exactly what a coin produces.

Other Guides in the Series

Seven other guides sit alongside this one, and the Bac Bo in Canada hub ties them together.

Bac Bo rules and how to play: where the road sits among the panels on screen.

Bac Bo bets and payouts: what each chip is paid once a streak ends.

Bac Bo odds and RTP: the 1,296 combinations behind the equal sides.

Bac Bo tie payouts: whether ties bunch up, and the five rates they pay.

Bac Bo strategy and budget: plans built on streaks, put to the test.

Bac Bo or baccarat: the card game whose road names Bac Bo borrows.

Is Bac Bo legal in Canada: the Criminal Code, the provinces and the standards for fair play.

Treating the Board as a Scoreboard

Looking at roads is harmless as long as they stay a scoreboard: a picture of how the sitting has gone so far. Trouble starts when the picture changes the size of your stake, because a bigger bet after a streak, or a doubled one after a miss, widens the swings and leaves the odds exactly where they were. For limits that hold whatever the board shows, see the Canadian responsible gambling page.

❓ Bac Bo Road Patterns: Frequently Asked Questions

    <details class="faq-item">

Can the Big Road show which side is hot at a Bac Bo table?

            It shows which side has won recently, which is a fact about the past and not a property of the dice. Every round is thrown fresh. In 2,000,000 simulated rounds, the side that had just won five or more decided rounds in a row took the next one 50.02% of the time for Player and 49.93% for Banker, which is noise around even. A hot side is a description, not a forecast.

    </details>

    <details class="faq-item">

How often does a streak of ten show up in a hundred decided rounds?

            Less often than a streak of seven, yet far from never. In a stretch of 100 decided rounds, 10 or more in a row shows up 8.67% of the time, compared with 54.23% for 7 or more. The longest run in a stretch that size averages 6.98 wins, so a long column is an ordinary sight. Ten in a row is uncommon, not impossible.

    </details>

    <details class="faq-item">

Does a cluster of ties mean the table is faulty?

            Not by itself. Ties land in 11.27% of rounds, and over 100 rounds the count averages 11.3 with a standard deviation of 3.2, so anything between 4.9 and 17.6 is unremarkable. A few arriving close together is just the spread of normal dice. A cluster of ties is within normal play.

    </details>

    <details class="faq-item">

Does it help to keep my own record of the results?

            Keeping a record is harmless as a pastime and useless as a method. The dice have no memory, so a notebook of past rounds adds nothing to the odds of the next one, and the 1.13% house edge applies to every chip whether or not you track results. If a log helps you remember how long you have played, it has done its job. Records describe play, not the next round.

    </details>

Bac Bo road patterns turn a table’s history into a picture, and a column of Player wins looks like momentum while a zigzag looks like a pattern about to break.
