Two of them behave like near coin flips and the third is a long shot, and the payout column hides how differently the three behave. This guide settles the arithmetic one chip at a time. It begins with what each bet needs in order to win, explains what a rate such as 4 to 1 means in chips, and shows the deduction that Player and Banker bets suffer when the dice come out level. A settlement sheet then applies every possible outcome to every bet, followed by the price of covering both sides, the five Tie rates and a short checklist for the rules panel. The figures use the standard rules, and an operator’s table may differ, so the panel on screen has the last word.

What Each Bet Needs to Win

The table sets the three bets side by side. The last column is the chance of the bet winning in any single round.

Bet

It wins when

Pays on a win

Chance per round

Player

Player’s total is higher than Banker’s

1 to 1

44.37%

Banker

Banker’s total is higher than Player’s

1 to 1

44.37%

Tie

Both totals are equal

4 to 1 up to 88 to 1, by total

11.27%

Player and Banker can win only on a decided round, and decided rounds make up 88.73% of all rounds. Because the two sides throw identical dice, they share the same 44.37% chance, and neither deserves a reputation as the stronger seat.

Reading Rates in Chips

A rate of N to 1 means N chips of profit for every chip staked, and the stake itself comes back as well. At 1 to 1, a 3-chip bet that wins returns 6 chips: 3 of profit and 3 of stake. A 2-chip Tie bet at 4 to 1 earns 8 chips of profit and returns 10 chips in all.

A loss is simpler, because the stake is simply gone. That asymmetry explains why long-shot rates look generous: a payout of 88 to 1 arrives so rarely that most of the chips staked on it are lost long before it lands.

A rate written as “for 1” counts the stake inside the return, so 5 for 1 is the same as 4 to 1. This guide always means “to 1”, with the stake coming back on top of the profit.

The Tie Deduction on Player and Banker Bets

On a tie neither side wins, so a Player or Banker bet cannot be paid. Rather than lose the whole stake, these bets lose 10% of it and the rest is returned. Both a review site and an independent odds analyst describe the deduction as 10% of the stake. On a 10-chip bet that means 9 chips back and 1 lost.

A win pays the full 1 to 1, with no cut taken from it. The deduction applies only on ties, which land in 11.27% of rounds, and spread across every round it is the entire cost of the sides: 1.13% of the chips staked.

The Settlement Sheet

The sheet shows the net result per chip staked for each bet under each kind of round. A figure of +1 is a chip of profit, and a figure of -1 is the stake lost.

Bet

Player wins

Banker wins

Round ties

Player

+1

-1

-0.10

Banker

-1

+1

-0.10

Tie at 6, 7 or 8

-1

-1

+4

Tie at 5 or 9

-1

-1

+6

Tie at 4 or 10

-1

-1

+10

Tie at 3 or 11

-1

-1

+25

Tie at 2 or 12

-1

-1

+88

Read along any row and the pattern shows. A side bet wins or loses a chip on a decided round and gives up a tenth of a chip on a tie. A Tie bet loses a chip on every decided round and collects its rate only when the totals match, which is why its results come in bursts.

The Five Tie Rates

The rate depends on the shared score, and it tracks how few tie combinations produce that score. Out of the 146 combinations that end level, the split is as follows.

Scores of 2 or 12: pays 88 to 1, and only 2 combinations qualify.

Scores of 3 or 11: pays 25 to 1, with 8 combinations.

Scores of 4 or 10: pays 10 to 1, with 18 combinations.

Scores of 5 or 9: pays 6 to 1, with 32 combinations.

Scores of 6, 7 or 8: pays 4 to 1, with 86 combinations.

The Bac Bo tie payouts guide measures how often each group lands and how much of the Tie bet’s return it supplies.

Does Covering Both Sides Cancel the Cost?

Putting 1 chip on Player and 1 chip on Banker looks like a hedge. On a decided round one bet wins 1 chip and the other loses 1, so the pair nets zero. On a tie both bets give up their tenth, which costs the pair 0.20 chips.

Per round the pair stakes 2 chips and is expected to lose 0.023 chips. Over an hour of 120 rounds that adds up to 240 chips staked and 2.70 lost on average, which is 1.13% of the chips staked, the same share as a single side bet. Covering both sides removes the swings from decided rounds and leaves the price exactly where it was.

Pairing a Side With the Tie

Some players put a large chip stake on a side and a small one on the Tie. The table shows how such a pair settles, using a 10-chip Player bet and a 1-chip Tie bet, with the net result in chips for each kind of round.

Round ends

Player bet

Tie bet

Net for the pair

Player wins

+10

-1

+9

Banker wins

-10

-1

-11

Tie at 6, 7 or 8

-1

+4

+3

Tie at 5 or 9

-1

+6

+5

Tie at 4 or 10

-1

+10

+9

Tie at 3 or 11

-1

+25

+24

Tie at 2 or 12

-1

+88

+87

On every decided round the Tie chip is lost, so the pair finishes 1 chip worse than the side bet alone. A tie turns that around, because the Tie chip pays its rate while the side bet gives up only 1 chip. The pair does not change the price, since each bet keeps its own house edge, 1.13% on the side and 4.48% on the Tie, and the pair costs a blend of the two weighted by chips.

A Short Checklist for the Rules Panel

Standard rules are a reference point, and the panel on the table you are watching is what counts. Before staking, run through four checks.

Find the Tie rates and compare each one with the five groups above.

See what the panel says happens to Player and Banker bets when the totals are level.

Note the minimum and maximum stake, since limits are set by the operator.

Look for extra bets, which this guide does not cover, and price them separately.

Other Guides in the Series

The Bac Bo in Canada hub lists all eight guides. At 5 chips a round on Player or Banker, an hour of 120 rounds puts 600 chips in play and is expected to cost 6.76 of them. Pick a limit that you could lose in full without regret, and stop when it is reached.
