Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. ET \/ 12:00 p.m. PT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After experiencing the unparalleled energy of playing their Group B matches on home soil, Canada now hits the road. They secured their historic advancement by finishing second in their group, following a draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina, a dominant 6-0 dismantling of Qatar, and a hard-fought 2-1 defeat to Switzerland at BC Place in Vancouver. Despite the loss to the Swiss, late substitute Promise David gave Canadian fans something to cheer about by finding the back of the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We just wanted to continue the energy that&#8217;s taken place here in Canada,&#8221; head coach Jesse Marsch noted following the final group match. &#8220;But we&#8217;re going to go to LA and we still want to electrify our country. We&#8217;re exactly where we wanted to be \u2013 in the knockout phase&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a massive boost for the Canadian side, Marsch also confirmed that superstar Alphonso Davies &#8220;should be ready for the next match&#8221;. His return to full fitness will be crucial as Canada looks to break down their opponents and continue this historic run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau echoed the team&#8217;s readiness to embrace the away-game environment after finishing their home stand. &#8220;We wanted to stay home but now we have to see against who we&#8217;re playing, and we&#8217;re going to go on the road and we know how to play as well in those type of games,&#8221; Crepeau stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Standing in Canada&#8217;s way is a resilient South African side, known as <em>Bafana Bafana<\/em>, who are also contesting their first-ever World Cup knockout match. South Africa showed massive character to finish second in Group A, bouncing back from an opening defeat to Mexico by drawing Czechia and pulling off a spectacular upset victory over South Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While this is the first competitive meeting between the two nations &#8211; having only previously played a friendly back in 2007 &#8211; the stakes could not be higher. The winner of this monumental clash will punch their ticket to the Round of 16 in Houston on the Fourth of July. For the CanMNT, the dream of a deep World Cup run is very much alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-my-bet-for-canada-vs-south-africa\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">My bet for Canada vs South Africa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada being priced as favorites at -143 odds is way overvalued for a matchup like this. It&#8217;s important to note that this game won&#8217;t be in Vancouver or Toronto, where the first two matches took place, but at SoFi Stadium. Although Canadian fans will show up in numbers and represent the majority, it&#8217;s still not Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Canadian national team has shown plenty of grit, drive, and a solid ability to fight back. We saw this in their opener, when they bounced back to draw 1-1 with Bosnia, and in the last round&#8217;s 2-1 loss to Switzerland, where they rallied after going down 2-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In those games, they generated 1.25 xGF and 1.70 xGF, respectively. The team creates chances. Against Qatar, in that 6-0 win, Canada produced 4.60 xGF &#8211; but that was against one of the worst teams in the World Cup, who played with two men down from the 53rd minute onward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does make Canada the favorites, and they deserve to be, just not at -143 odds. Right now, bet365 has them at -303 odds to qualify. On the other hand, South Africa is heavily underestimated at +400 odds to win and +240 to qualify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The African side has already faced a knockout scenario in this tournament, where they absolutely needed a win and pulled off a 1-0 victory over South Korea. It was a match with 1.13 xGF. They are a team that has been improving as the tournament progresses. They started the World Cup losing 2-0 to Mexico, drew 1-1 with Czechia after pushing hard for a late equalizer, and then beat South Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The South African squad brings a lot of pace and a touch of skill, but they are defensively weak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canada doesn&#8217;t exactly look solid defensively either. That\u2019s why their -143 odds to win the match seem crazy to me. The goals Canada conceded against Switzerland came from defensive blunders (the first one) and a mistake by goalkeeper Cr\u00e9peau (the second).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nerves could take over, and a lack of experience at this stage might play a role too, making it tough to call a winner here.
