However, nobody could have predicted such a flawless execution as Les Rouges absolutely dismantled Qatar in a 6-0 blowout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lethal Strike Duo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the tournament, pundits questioned the form of our star strikers, Cyle Larin and Jonathan David. Head coach Jesse Marsch silenced those doubts by switching to a two-striker formation, and their chemistry was instantaneous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This relentless pressure led to two Qatari red cards, including Homam Elamin\u2019s 33rd-minute dismissal after denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. It is worth noting, however, that Canada was already up 2-0 and completely bossing the match well before the first card was even shown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Down the right flank, Alistair Johnston and Tajon Buchanan were an absolute menace. The Celtic defender and Villarreal winger torched Qatar’s defence all night, creating nearly every dangerous sequence and proving exactly why they are Champions League-calibre talents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Path Forward<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this statement win, Canada now sits atop Group B with four points and a commanding +6 goal differential. The math for the co-hosts is simple: a win or a draw against Switzerland on June 24 guarantees first place in the group. Winning the group is a massive prize, as it ensures Les Rouges will stay right here in Vancouver for the Round of 32.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until that pivotal clash, the nation will happily bask in the glory of this historic milestone – while collectively praying for a speedy recovery for Isma\u00ebl Kon\u00e9. Godspeed, Isma\u00ebl!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My bet for Canada vs Bosnia & Qatar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This could be Canada\u2019s first-ever win at a World Cup, and it\u2019s massive if the CanMNT wants to advance from the group. Right now, every team in Group B is sitting on one point. Both Canada and Qatar had to chase the game after going down early in their openers. Canada put up a decent fight against Bosnia, while Qatar got absolutely hemmed in by Switzerland and only salvaged a point with a lucky bounce late in the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sportsbooks have Canada priced at -357 to win, sitting at -1.5 on the Asian Handicap<\/strong>, which feels like a stretch. These lines are inflated because of how bad Qatar looked in their opener, not necessarily because of what Canada showed on the pitch. Just as a point of interest, Canada was priced at 1.40 to beat Qatar before the tournament even started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar conceded 3.20 xGA and allowed 26 shots. Only Cura\u00e7ao (at the time of writing this preview) has given up more. Even Cape Verde didn’t concede that much against Spain. To put it into perspective, Tunisia and Paraguay, who lost after conceding 5 and 4 goals respectively, didn’t even give up that much in terms of expected goals. Qatar\u2019s backline is incredibly weak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on that, I like the idea of Canada scoring at least two goals here. They definitely have the ceiling to put up three or four. The issue comes down to two things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Alphonso Davies isn\u2019t playing at 100%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Jonathan David had a rough outing against Bosnia and has only found the back of the net once since April.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Qatar got a point handed to them from the heavens. In a tournament like this, that gives a squad serious momentum and belief. Let’s be honest, Canada doesn’t defend at the same level as Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So, as much as I’m cheering for the guys, Qatar +1.5 on the Asian Handicap holds too much value to ignore for a matchup like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
